Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, said the Starlink global free-to-Internet project will be running testing right this year.
Musk shared on Twitter that the internal testing of the Starlink system will begin in the next three months, while the public testing will be implemented in about six months. Experimental project with satellites located at high latitudes (far from the equator) first.
Elon Musk revealed the testing time for Starlink on Twitter.
Previously, most satellites in orbit concentrated in low latitudes due to the large number of people living. According to Popular Mechanics, with high latitude priority, Musk has solved the problem that has existed for decades of satellite Internet when serving the harsh climates, few people live.
Previously, SpaceX representatives said they planned to provide free Internet service to the first customers in the US and Canada in 2020. Since the beginning of the year, the company has continuously launched dozens of Starlink satellites into orbit. via Falcon 9 boosters despite the difficulties caused by Covid-19. On April 22, the company continued to launch 60 new satellites, bringing the total number of devices on the Starlink network to more than 400 units.
SpaceX says its satellites can transmit the Internet directly to endpoints that customers install in their homes or offices. The goal of the project is to develop the Starlink network to more than 40,000 satellites to cover high-speed, cheap Internet around the globe, serving even places that cannot access the Internet in the usual way.
Musk estimated that the project could bring $ 30 billion in annual revenue to SpaceX if successful.
