Young Vietnamese passionate about hand-drawn cars are currently shaping two strong communities: Honda Winner and Yamaha Exciter. This is also the clearest picture showing the increasing competition between these two "compatriot" rivals.

After 14 years of presence in Vietnam market, Yamaha Exciter is being dubbed the "king of the street", represented by the number of more than 1,000,000 units sold. With Honda Winner, although it was not until April 2016 for selling in Vietnam, it is estimated that it has nearly reached 300,000 cars. The average sales is only 1/2 Exciter.

Among the 3 newly launched versions of Honda Winner X, the ABS-free sports version is expected to have the best sales by the price of 46 million VND, enough to compete with the cheapest version of Yamaha Exciter is RC, the price is 47 million.

According to many young people, the standard Honda Winner or Yamaha Exciter series are the easiest to choose because of the appropriate cost to easily build toys later. Therefore, in this article, VietnamNet Xe learns carefully about the design and operation of the two cheapest versions, including Honda Winner X sports version and Yamaha Exciter RC.

Design

After appearing with a new name, Honda Winner X looks more "muscular", different from the previous Winner thanks to the car cover, front and side of the car completely redone. But compared to the old size, Honda Winner X cut the length and height down to a few millimeters, increasing the width, specifically at the measurements of 2,019 x 727 x 1088 (mm). The ground clearance is also lowered to 150 mm, helping the car look "less floating" than before. However, the finish of the Honda Winner X tires has not been highly appreciated, the creaking feeling is obvious when tapping or leaning on the sides.

Honda Winner X also created a lot of controversy about moving the headlight cluster on the handlebars down below the tires, the long turn signals of the hybrid lights on some naked bike models. This design is said to be more bunker but quite inconvenient as the lighting angle does not keep up with the steering, the turn signals are easy to break due to the brush.

Meanwhile, Yamaha Exciter RC is the newly upgraded version, launched on the market. The design still inherits the distinct identities at the beginning, the rear of the car like the 150 version first launched 5 years ago. New in this version is the front of this car equipped with sports LED headlights, LCD electronic clock screen in the style of a Yamaha R1 motorcycle, which displays all the necessary parameters.

The size of the Yamaha Exciter RC 2019 is longer and higher than the old one, the height of the saddle increases by 15 mm, the ground clearance increases by 20 mm, the weight of the car also increases by 117 kg (heavier than 2 kg) but still smaller than Honda Winner X, also 7 kg lighter. Because of its small size, light weight and quite optimal aerodynamic design, such as the front turn signal light integrated on the overalls, the sharp nose of the car is not entangled by the headlights like Winner so the ability to maintain the speed and field of the Exciter is more appreciated.

Overall in terms of design, the Yamaha Exciter RC is still more appreciated than Honda Winner X because of its sporty look and feel, as well as more practicality and ease of operation. Besides, despite being commented with a hybrid design of scooters such as AirBlade or Vario, Honda Winner X also received compliments on the new, healthy exhaust.

Utilities

On both new Underbone tapered hands, the manufacturer attaches great importance to some commonly used utilities of the users.

With the clutch, the clutch operation is always a measure to assess the running of the user, so the dashboard is often concerned with new runners. In the past, the tapered hands of the rev counter were usually mechanical, analog type. Even the new Yamaha Exciter 150 kept this design. To date, the 2019 Yamaha Exciter cluster has completely displayed all on a large LCD screen. Opponent Honda Winner X is also not inferior, adding a small negative LCD screen with modern style. However, due to Winner X's split-type LCD screen, it seems to be easily dispersed, looking glare during the day, only really visible when observing at night.

Both Yamaha Exciter RC and Honda Winner X have the "passing" feature integrated on the phase / cos adjustment button, which is quite convenient when running at night, especially the car has Full LED lights. But unfortunately on the right hand drive shackles, Honda Winner X has no engine switch. This helps rival Yamaha Exciter 2019 has an advantage.

Another advantage of Yamaha Exciter is that right from the RC version is equipped with car lock in the parking lot, while Honda Winner even the most advanced version does not have this feature. Perhaps the fact that Winner X debuted only 3 years after the first Winner appeared was also an effort to rush the race, so the equipment related utilities for such a car owner needs more time.

Operate

The ability to accelerate, accelerate, enter the clutch or field of Honda Winner and Yamaha Exciter has always been a topic of "politically" quite exciting on the vehicle forums. In this regard, from the old version of Honda Winner has been considered "the eight ounces, half weight" compared to Yamaha Exciter.

Coming to the new version named Honda Winner X, the car still remains the PGM-FI engine, 4-stroke, single-cylinder DOHC, liquid-cooled, 150 cc capacity. Producing maximum power of 15.4 hp at 9,000 v / p, maximum torque of 13.5 Nm at 6,500 v / p, compression ratio 11.3: 1. Comes with 6-speed gearbox, clutch.

In Yamaha Exciter RC models use 4-stroke engine, single cylinder, 4 valves, SOHC, liquid-cooled, reaching a maximum power of 15.4 horsepower at 8,500 v / p and maximum torque of 13.8 Nm at 7,000 v / p, compression ratio of 10.4: 1, combined with 5-speed gearbox.

So in theory, the high torque at low rpm and high compression ratio of Honda Winner X bring the advantage of speeding better than the opponent. In fact, the story of running fast or slow also depends on the steering "plead" the car. But in Honda Winner X, there is some feedback from customers that there is a crunching sound from the engine room when running, the engine increases the weight of the car, the steering wheel is tired because of wide. These may be signs that Honda will have to tweak a lot for a new product launch.

For Yamaha Exciter RC, the tweaks at the front of the vehicle both in equipment and aerodynamics make the car more sporty. The steering is compact and the saddle is not too steep like Winner X is a plus that helps the driver adapt even when it is first run.

Conclude

With the price difference of about 1 million VND, Yamaha Exciter RC is more expensive but comes with a few more equipment that Honda Winner X sports version does not have. If you are concerned about selling prices, this is probably the detail that buyers can keep in mind. Regarding design and operation, Honda Winner X will need more time to improve some points that are not suitable for Vietnamese people. Meanwhile, rival Yamaha Exciter RC is considered a better upgrade than the old version in terms of design and utility. In addition, the debut time is earlier than Honda Winner X in the market, so it is somewhat advantageous.
